Riposte Wines 2017: Take a fresh look at a proven cool climate champion
A decade since celebrated winemaker Tim Knappstein made an important statement by launching Riposte Wines, the respected cool climate wine brand commences a fresh era with the release of striking new packaging.
Cleaner lines and bold, confident graphics are hallmarks of the re-designed brand and wine bottle labels. It signals that Riposte is entering an exciting new phase, ready to harness new possibility in international wine markets.
For those already familiar with Riposte Wines, it’s worth looking at the brand afresh, because the wines have improved along with the packaging. Tim Knappstein says he’s making significantly better wines than when he started the brand – the consequence of accumulated experience, together with careful reading of more mature vineyards. “It’s the maturity of styles and ideas as well,” adds Tim. “The sum of many parts.”
This underlines the philosophy of Riposte Wines. Bedrock values are intact that qualify stability, a commitment to quality, and restate the longevity of a secure and strong family wine business. Steady but certain growth, both in Australia and a variety of international markets, shows that Riposte Wines keeps moving in the right direction. “Sure, the market shifts and moves, but it’s important to hold your line,” explains Tim. “Experience matters, and we know what we are doing. We have the confidence to continue doing what we do best.”
The first look at the new Riposte labels is entirely appropriate; two wines that represent a succinct biography of Tim Knappstein’s winemaking, from his Clare Valley origins to his current Lenswood home.
- 2017 Riposte The Scimitar Clare Valley Riesling – one of three single vineyard wines in the Riposte range, this coming from the Othello vineyard in Watervale, at the northern tip of Clare’s rich seam of Terra Rossa soil.
- 2017 Riposte The Foil Adelaide Hills Sauvignon Blanc – an elegant cool climate white with crisp, clean flavours, achieving an easy balance between gentle fruit sweetness and mouthwatering acidity.
Like all great promises, there is more to come. New Riposte packaging will feature on all wines from the 2017 vintage, so consumers will see a gradual replacement of old labels at wine retail shops and in restaurants during the next year.
